Glad to know that you are aware of the need to prepare from
the beginning for your boards. Know that Std. 12th is not as Std. 10th
that will get you through good marks only by preparing in the last months.
Because this year will shape your career, will let you choose your career –
rather than bad scores ruin up your ambitions. Work hard and reap the benefits
when your parents pat your shoulders and hug you; for you have made them proud.
So hit the ground running and start your preparations right here, right now.
I was in 12th standard last year and no veteran
in teaching or coaching. There are things that I couldn't do before the time
ran out and regret it now. And also things that I did right and later thanked
myself for it – this article is an amalgamation of both. It’s easy, if you
start now, believe me.
Physics:
Most important Chapters: Oscillations, Stationary waves,
Kinetic theory of gases and radiation, Electrostatistics, Electromagnetic
induction.
Easy chapters: Gravitation, Rotational motion, Elasticity,
Surface tension, Wave motion, Wave theory of light, Current electricity,
Magnetic effect of electric current, Magnetism, Electrons and photons,
Communication systems.
Problems play an important part in physics and almost all
the chapters have them. A nice way to practice problems is to read the
respective chapters thoroughly from the textbooks, remember formulae’s and then
try to attempt them. This will be a more conceptual method and will result in
strong grasp of concepts as well as the problems. Solve the solved examples
given in the textbooks and the unsolved ones by referring to a good reference
book and as far as possible try to solve them all in a single go. This will
enhance your understandability and with daily practice you shall rule them.
Just remember that ignoring them for the last months will only result into
volatile solutions. They carry 20 marks in your board exams so you know how
important they are.
Concentrate on the concepts and try to link them, instead of
rote learning. There are few diagrams in your textbooks, give them a look,
practice them once or twice and you are good for your exams.
There are many derivations in physics and they are
important. Writing and practicing is a key to master them.
There are dimensions and units to most of the physical
quantities and knowing them will give you an edge, not only in your boards but
in your entrance exams too.
Physics generally seems tough to many students, and the
toughest paper has been physics from last many years. No worry, practice it
daily, be thorough with the concepts, solve problems to ace them, give
derivations their time, there are laws – rote them and you are a champ.
Chemistry:
This is the lengthiest subject in your syllabus, so it needs
more attention and time.
Part I
The first five chapters in this section has problems and
they are easier with direct applications of formulae, though some require good
amount of practice to get through. The same method you applied to tackle
problems in physics applies here, first the concepts – the chapter as a whole
and then problems. The solved examples here are given in between topics, so it
aids you in practicing them conceptually. They account for 10 marks in your
section 1 of chemistry board paper so a good amount of practice doesn’t hurts.
Solid state: Much theory part in this chapter, learn them
thoroughly. There problems and almost all of them are based on a single
formulae, so this should be easy.
Solutions and Colligative properties (Easy): Learn all the
colligative properties and their relations with molar mass, they are important.
Problems vary with each colligative property, so solving them as you learn a property
is a good idea.
Chemical thermodynamics and energetics: This is one of the
most important chapters. There are different derivations and laws so know and
practice them well. All concepts are important. Problems vary with concepts and
there are a lot of them, so practice them.
Electrochemistry: Definitions, laws are important. Different
type of cells and their constructions as well as the reactions involved in the
cell. Problems are not as varying as in the above chapter and can be learned by
a good amount of practice.
Chemical kinetics (Easy): This is one of the easiest
chapters in this section. All the concepts and the problems are simple, learn
them quick and with ease.
General principle and process of isolation of elements:
Definitions, names of ores, processes of their extraction, reactions, and
Ellingham diagram are important. Not accounts for much marks in paper, still
important for those aiming high.
P block elements: The lengthiest chapter in your syllabus.
This chapter can be mastered by learning through groups and their elements. The
different properties, preparations, uses and electronic configurations of
elements are important.
Part II
This section has reactions and reactions should be practiced
their names, catalysts and reagents involved and temperature forms an important
part in every reaction.
All the named reactions are important in this section and it
would help you if you write them together and then learn or practice.
D and F block elements (Easy): Positions, electronic
configurations, characteristics and trends of elements are important.
Preparations and properties of K2Cr2O7 and
KMnO4 are important. Same for F-block elements and the differences
between both as well as lanthanides and actinides.
Co-ordination compounds: Be thorough with all the concepts.
Names of co-ordination compounds and CFT are also important.
Following few chapters are high with reactions, so you gotta
be higher to react them nice.
Halogen derivatives of alkanes and arenes, Alcohol and
Phenols, Aldehydes Ketones and Carboxylic acid, Compounds containing nitrogen:
The studying method for all these chapters are same. Properties, preparations,
reactions and uses of the compounds in respective chapters. Be nice in these
things and you are done with this chapters.
Biomolecules, Polymers, Chemistry in everyday life: These
are the easiest chapters in chemistry. Learn them all, with easy concepts.
Uses, names, definitions – rote them.
Go slow but steady with chemistry. The more you learn, the
easier it gets. Study them not just for you are supposed to do so for exams,
but for learning something new and this excitement is hard to beat.
Maths:
This is probably the easiest and fun to learn subjects
because it delights you when you get a thing right with the skills you learn.
So enjoy it
Part I
Chapters are short and simple with basic methods.
Most Important Chapters: Trigonometric Functions, Vectors.
Easy chapters: All of them except Trigonometric functions
requires a little extra effort but, it is simple too. So this section can
easily score you full marks as you practice nice.
Part II
This is little difficult and lengthier than part I and will
require more amount of practice.
Most Important Chapters: Differentiation, Integration.
Easy chapters: Probability distribution, Binomial
Distribution.
There are many formulae’s in this section as well as
previously learnt formulae’s and practicing by writing them is a sure way to
learn them quick.
Part II needs immense practice but once you are aware of the
concepts and the methods to solve them, you’ll cruise through it.
Different types in Integration and Derivatives are
important.
Theorems in both the part should be nicely practiced as most
of them are easier and help in scoring easy marks.
Solve all the textual sums and learn the different types of
sums and the methods to solve them. Maths is best practiced with this mindset.
Daily practice is a key to success with Maths as it is with
all other subjects.
Biology:
Biology is all theory and you’ve got to learn and memorize
things up. Diagrams are an important part in biology and needs practice so you
are good with diagrams if you practice them with the theoretical part.
There are various cycles in the subject so that needs
practice too.
Remembering the names of species, bacteria’s, parts, etc. is
the only way you can get good with them.
Gulp down biology as it is, do it your way and do it nice.
Before I conclude, remember that MCQ’s hold an impressive
amount of marks and get your hands on as many as you can, not much effort,
right.
This is it. It was an exhaustive list of things to do but
as the time passes you’ll know how important it was to start early, I have
experienced. Instead of fretting with regret later, work now. One thing that is
important is being consistent in your studies rather than going all at once and
later lying tired. Study in small portions but study effective. Motivate yourself
– you are grown up enough to do that. And it is no rocket science man, take it
easy, take it cool, be proud of yourself and make your parents do so… Rock the
year!
P.S: As I said I am
no expert neither have I been in coaching. I am a student and just a year older
than you. I have experienced a year and tried to share it with utmost kindness.
If you feel the above stuff lacks something, let me know, it will be nice
learning from you. Comments and advices appreciated.
