It was a new
dawn. A bright new day. More than feeling he’d lose himself in the jungle
forever Nick believed he will find a way out someday. Even 12 days of isolation
in that predatory jungle, he didn’t lose hope. He thought he has become quite familiar
with the animals for he had spotted a tiger from about 200m distance, a horde
of deer and a few elephants, without any mutuality between him and those jungle
creatures, which he thought he’d become given some more days in this place. He set
out to roam in search of some food but the afternoon rush of warm air made sure
his lethargic habit stays intact. After feeling more hungry than lazy, he
finally went in search of something to eat. He walked a few miles and went on
eating all the edible stuff he found on the way. The energy bar shot up and so
did the desire to have fun. He went animal spotting and had a small 0.18 glock
with him in case any tiger ever sprang upon him, he carried it full bullets and
hadn’t used it even once. There were less trees and more open fields which
aided sighting of any animal or movement in far distance. Just when he zoomed
in his binoculars, Bingo! A cheetah! He had always dreamt of seeing a cheetah
in front of him. He decided, there couldn’t be a better opportunity if he let
go this one. The cheetah seemed to be taking an afternoon nap. He went further,
more further and soon he was just a few foots away from the fastest running
animal in the world. In oblivion with or just in the amazement of the moment he
forgot that fact. Slap! He slapped the cheetah hard and started running, the
cheetah – as much in shock as Nick was in. Just when he thought he couldn’t run
any faster, which happened just a few seconds after he played a joke on himself
by slapping the cheetah. Shoot! Shoot! He shot the cheetah twice and he sprang upon
the land with helplessness, his agility gave up and the cheetah felt unable to
run any further, he lie there with the failed desire to have caught the
freshest meat in days. The confident yet painful eyes of cheetah said, be back
once and I shall rip you apart. But Nick ran further, looking back at the
ailing animal. Looking back at his supposed death by his favorite animal, he
ran amazed looking back at his escape from mortality. He went back to a tree
that provided shade and peace. Behind that tree was carved something that
struck him hard and which made him shameful of himself. “Learn from your mistakes”. It inspired him great deal by what had
happened today earlier and decided to learn from what he had mistaken. He tightened
his lace and started his practice to run faster the very next moment without
wasting his any precious time.
P.S: Nick was hunted down by a cheetah few evenings after while he again tried to slap and run. The last thing he learned before dying was that one should always keep their gun reloaded while attempting to slap a cheetah and practicing to run faster.
